Typical Worship Service at Saint Andrew

Presbyterian Cross WindowAs you step through the carved wooden doors into our Narthex, a member of our congregation will greet you. If you are a visitor, we hope you will sign the guest register. If you have children, you will find Bibles, handouts and activity clipboards located on a nearby table for their use during the worship service. Children are expected and appreciated in our worship services.

Someone, child or adult, will hand you the day's bulletin as you head into the Sanctuary. All members of our church family-children, youth and adults-provide leadership by ushering, greeting, singing in the choir, taking up the collection or leading liturgy. Once inside, you will see that ours is a Sanctuary "in the round," and you may sit wherever you feel comfortable.

We have informal moments in our service when we welcome each other by passing the Peace of Christ, when we make announcements about church activities, and when the children come forward for "Sharing Faith with Children." More formal is our kneeling for Confession, sharing prayers of concern, and reading Scripture and participating in the liturgy. We receive Communion the first Sunday of each month around a large central table, children and adults alike, the family of God kneeling together.

After the children's special time, first graders and older are encouraged to remain in the Sanctuary and participate in worship. Pre-school children are invited to attend "Bridges to Worship," a program designed to teach the basics of worship to young children.

The music you hear and the hymns we sing are mostly traditional, but may include gospel, praise or taize. Our bell choir and various instrumentalists from within the congregation bring special music from time to time.

After the service, follow the crowd to All Saints Hall for fellowship and refreshments. We are a church family that loves to visit and eat and we hope you will join us.
